Trent-Severn Waterway

Welcome to Fenelon Falls

Fenelon Falls is nicknamed the “Jewel of the Kawarthas,” and for good reason. If you’ve toured through the Kawarthas (whether by boat, car or bike) you’ll know that this spot really does shine! Click here to see where Fenelon Falls is located on our Trip Planner.

Move Yourself

  • Have you heard of the “Butter Tart Bandits”? Fenelon Falls is one of their favourite ports of call in the autumn, perhaps because the country roads and fall colours are so beautiful around here, or perhaps because Fenelon Falls is such a hotspot for sweet, locally-made butter tarts. Whatever the reason, motorcyclists love a Butter Tart Tour through Fenelon Falls along the Trent-Severn Waterway.
  • Speaking of moving yourself, experience the mechanical antiquities of early transportation at the Horseless Carriage Museum. Located half-way between Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon, this museum is non-profit and does not have regular hours so please call ahead to request a visit!
  • If you’re interested in tasting more of 19th century history, check out the Maryboro Lodge in downtown Fenelon Falls, home of the Fenelon Falls Museum.
  • Walk over to enjoy the beautiful selection of art at the Colborne Street Gallery.
  • Have you paddled the Trent-Severn Waterway or  “Shared the Chair” at Parks Canada’s Lock 34?
  • The Kawartha Lakes is the Houseboat Capital of Ontario. Your houseboat adventure is calling! Get the details here.
  • The Kawartha Lakes are a gorgeous area to explore by bike, especially via the gorgeous Victoria Rail Trail and Kawartha Trans Canada Trail. Check out this blog by Ontario By Bike and get ideas from Kawartha Lakes Tourism.

Hidden Gem: Shopping!

  • Looking for a unique shopping experience? You *must* check out “Curious?” at 10-B Water Street. This is your fine art, home décor, body products, jewellery, pottery, toys, bedding, and generally everything wonderful and unique store. Curious? Just take a look at their great posts Instagram @CuriousFenelon.

Eats & Treats

  • Fenelon Falls is a big little Butter Tart Tour destination with four tour bakeries! Visit to get the map & make your sweet tour plans, and check out our blogger Matt’s experience tasting some of these sweet spots in our blog here. Here are the four stops in Fenelon Falls:
    1. Kawartha Shortbread is baker of the 1st place butter tart in the 2017 “Best of the Best” Taste-off and a regular award-winner year-over-year!
    2. Little Pie Shack is cute, pink, and sweet – a must-see for any Butter Tart Tour aficionado!
    3. Dolce Fenelon offers delectable Portuguese and Italian pastries, good espresso & cappuccino, sandwiches, a biscotti bar with 12 flavours, and of course Butter Tarts!
    4. Last but not least, Eganridge Inn, Country Club, and Spa is just a bit outside of downtown & has it all, including butter tarts!

Savour the Seasons

  • The Fenelon Falls Fair is an annual event in early August. Check out this website for dates as they become available.
  • Fenelon Falls also makes a special point of celebrating Santa Day each year – check out for all the festive details.

Fishing Tips from Local Pro Chris Huskilson

  • Lock 34 at Fenelon Falls connects Cameron Lake and Sturgeon Lake. Fishing is great all-year long. But for many species (Walleye, Perch, Bluegill, Crappie) fishing is most productive in spring, when the fish are fresh off the spawn and looking to feed. The biggest Muskies and Smallmouth Bass are typically caught in the fall.

Where to Stay

  • Check out our Trip Planner for all the options and reach out to the experts at Kawartha Lakes Tourism!
  • The Fenelon Inn is right downtown, and Eganridge Inn, Country Club, and Spa is halfway between Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon. (Don’t forget that they are also a Butter Tart Tour stop!) There are some parks and cottages farther afield too.
