Sure, the changing leaves are gorgeous—but corn mazes and pumpkin patches run a close second when it comes to classic fall imagery. Farms throughout Kawarthas Northumberland have stepped up to offer seasonal attractions that range from spooky to toddler-friendly, often with a corn maze as the centrepiece.

Vanderview Farms – Norwood, ON

Fittingly enough, in 2023 the theme for Vanderview Farms’ 11-acre corn maze is “pumpkins.” Seen from above, the maze itself is shaped like a giant pumpkin. While they’re visiting, families can partake in some pumpkin trivia and corny jokes. There are also plenty of photo opportunities, and over 25 varieties of pumpkins in the pick-your-own pumpkin patch. 

Afterward, don’t forget to bring home some fresh seasonal produce from the roadside farm stand.

Cricklewood – Brighton, ON

Cricklewood Farm is a scenic, fifth-generation farm located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, 3 km west of the picturesque town of Brighton.

They offer a six-acre maze, as well as a one-acre mini-maze that’s more manageable for young kids. Speaking of kids, there’s also a playground straw mountain, and picnic area adding to the appeal. Night maze visits will be held on the last two Saturdays before Halloween for those eager to navigate by flashlight.

In 2023, a portion of the maze admission proceeds will go to Fixed Fur Life, an organization that helps spay, neuter, and find new homes for stray animals.

McLean Berry Farm – Buckhorn, ON

McLean Berry Farm celebrates harvest season by welcoming the community to their farm for their annual Pumpkinfest. 

Your hosts invite you to “take a wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch, pick your own pumpkin, play on straw bales, and explore corn mazes.” The farm store, food truck, and spooky “haunted forest” also come highly recommended. Musical entertainment, a bouncy castle, wagon rides round out the offerings—and of course, don’t forget to check out the pumpkin cannon.

Stellmar Farm – Little Britain

Stellmar Farm offers fun events throughout the spooky season. Friday Night Fright is a chance to navigate their corn maze in the dark with just a flashlight; Boos and Brews sees the maze filled with monsters, so beers courtesy of the Lindsay Brewing Company can offer a little liquid courage.

On the more family-oriented side of the spectrum, visitors can also explore the maze by daylight, view giant pumpkins and squash, and tour the ‘patch for growing tips. Check the craft barn for artisanal goods, including natural skincare products made with the farm’s own beeswax.

Mariposa Woollen Mill – Oakwood

Mariposa Woolen Mill is a great bet for all things fleecy, as well as offering a range of agritourism experiences. During their Fall Festival, visitors can take in the 2-acre pumpkin patch and explore a 5-acre corn maze.

A children’s play area includes a mini straw maze and other seasonally themed attractions, including a story walk provided by of Kawartha Lakes Public Library. For the true pumpkin aficionado, consider taking the “A-maiz-ing Race” challenge after dark with a partner or a couple friends. An award will be given for best costume, so don’t forget to dress for the event.

McQuaid’s Country Market – Omemee

McQuaid’s Country Market boasts a sprawling 9-acre corn maze packed with twists and turns. After you emerge, bring home a pumpkin to decorate your porch for Halloween.

And there’s plenty going on in addition to the maze. Visit the market stand for fresh meat and produce, homemade jams, relishes, and salsa. You’ll also find treats like curds and fudge at the farm shop, provided by other local producers.

Burnham Family Farm Market Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch – Cobourg

The corn maze a the Burnham Family Farm Market is a bit of a sweet surprise as you won’t find information on their website, but we’ve done the sleuthing for you and have the 411 on Burnham’s corn maze. 

Pay admission inside the store, and you’ll receive a puzzle sheet to help you work your way through the maze’s riddles. If you solve it correctly, you’ll be rewarded with a delicious treat from the farm.

Leahy’s Farm Market – Lakefield area

Leahy’s also keeps a low profile online, but this corn maze and farm stand is definitely one to check out. Their farm stand sits on the side of Highway 28, which winds north of Peterborough through cottage country and the stunning lake region.

The maze is open daily between 9am-5pm. You’ll find fresh fruit and vegetables straight from the family-run farm, as well as pumpkins and gourds galore. The panoramic view of rolling landscape adds to the charm.
