Winter Getaways

We know how to enjoy all that winter has to offer! There are plenty of festivals, events, and live performances. There are also lots of great trails, getaways, and winter-time outdoor activities to enjoy. Here are some ideas to get you started!

Just east of Toronto, experience the quaint Victorian charm of Port Hope and Cobourg and escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Treat yourself to a stunningly delicious meals and buy some locally-made baked goods before you relax before a performance at the unique Capitol Theatre or one of several other great venues. If you prefer to get away from cities and towns altogether, escape to one of the resorts on Rice Lake.

Warm up to winter with the perfect balance of city & country in the City of Peterborough and Peterborough County. There are great trails for all types of activities. If cross-country skiing is of interest, check out the Kawartha Nordic Ski Club. The Kawarthas are bustling with snowmobile clubs and trails. If you’re looking for some winter hikes or snowshoe trails, get info here. Follow us on social media to stay informed about winter events like the PolarFest in Lakefield (February 2-4 2018), which features ice sculptures, Olympic-class speed skating, and pond hockey. You can even skate on the Trent-Severn Waterway right beside the world’s highest lift lock! Combine your adventures with a cottage resort so you can warm up hearth-side with a delicious meal after your fresh-air adventures. If you prefer to stay indoors, check out the local museums, galleries, shops, restaurants, and cultural events, including performances at Showplace, the Market Hall, and more. More adventures are only 90 minutes northeast of Toronto, in the Kawartha Lakes. Whether you’re a beginner or a veteran, hit the slopes at Devil’s Elbow Ski and Snowboard area. There are also plenty of stunning trails for snowshoeing, hiking and skiing. Get info on over 150km of groomed snowmobiling trails here.
