Paddling Lovesick Lake on the Trent-Severn Waterway - Justen Soule

Of course, no outdoor adventure in Kawarthas Northumberland is complete without enjoying the Trent-Severn Waterway. Thankfully, there are lots of options for spending the day on the water if you have a tight schedule. You could spend the day boating and exploring the lakes; go for a kayak or canoe in the morning and spend the afternoon relaxing on the dock.

During the spring, summer, and fall months there are many outfitters and rental options along the waterway that’ll quickly get you geared up with a canoe, kayak, SUP, or even a jet ski for a few hours of fun & escape. Some outfitters will even deliver to your location of choice, or shuttle you for a one-way river run. Check out our blog series by local guide Bretton Clark for dozens of ideas and resources perfect for day trips on the Trent-Severn Waterway.

In case you didn’t know, the Trent-Severn Waterway isn’t your typical canal. The vast majority of the waterway is natural lakes and rivers, so you’ll be spoiled for choice with options to escape into the wilds just moments from your launch point. The photo above, for example, is from Lovesick Lake en route to the secluded Wolf Island Provincial Park, just a short paddle from Burleigh Falls and the headquarters for Kawartha Adventure Rentals.
